Victoria Carpets First Impressions Range

Choosing a new carpet can feel like a big decision. There are hundreds of ranges out there, and the names on the sample books don't always tell you much about what you're actually getting. Over the years we've fitted carpets from just about every manufacturer going, and two brands we keep coming back to are Victoria Carpets and Hugh Mackay. Both are British, both have been making carpets for over a century, and both offer something genuinely worth seeing in your own home.

Victoria Carpets

Victoria Carpets has been weaving since 1895, starting out in Kirkcaldy in Scotland before settling in Kidderminster, the historic home of British carpet making. The company is a founding member of the Carpet Foundation and today makes everything from hardwearing family carpets to luxurious 100% wool ranges.

The EasiCare collection

Victoria's EasiCare carpets are made from polypropylene yarns, which makes them stain resistant and even bleach cleanable. If you have children, pets, or simply a busy household, these are the carpets that let you relax about spills and muddy paws.

The newest addition to the collection is Natural Impressions, a beautifully textured carpet with a tweed style finish and a new Flexi-Fit fleece backing that makes fitting cleaner and quicker. It comes in a curated palette of ten tonal shades and carries a 12 year wear warranty, so you get the natural, woven look without the upkeep that natural fibres sometimes need.

Elsewhere in the EasiCare collection, First Impressions remains a favourite with our customers for its softness, while Ultimate Impressions is the heavyweight of the family, a thick 80oz carpet in 20 shades with a 15 year wear warranty. The Heartland ranges are another strong option for family homes, being fade resistant, non-allergenic and built to take everything daily life throws at them.

Victoria Natural Impressions Range

The wool ranges

Victoria's Natureborn collection covers their wool and wool mix carpets, and there are some lovely options in there. Tudor Twist is a long-standing bestseller, an 80% wool twist that wears brilliantly. Burford Twist offers eleven subtle heathered shades inspired by the countryside, while Royal Velvet is a 100% wool carpet in 20 timeless colours for anyone wanting proper luxury underfoot. Wool has natural benefits that are easy to overlook: it bounces back from furniture dents, resists flattening, and helps regulate the temperature of a room. Victoria backs its wool ranges with a Moth Free Living Warranty too.

Hugh Mackay Carpets

Hugh Mackay has been making carpets in County Durham since 1903 and was awarded a Royal Warrant in 1972, with its carpets fitted in the Royal Households and the Houses of Parliament. That heritage shows in the quality of what they make today.

Durham Twist

Durham Twist is Hugh Mackay's flagship range and one of the finest wool twists you can buy. Made from 80% wool, it comes in a choice of three pile weights and an impressive 60 colours, alongside coordinating striped designs. It carries an extra heavy domestic rating, so it's well suited to hallways, stairs and living rooms that see plenty of traffic, and it's available in 4 and 5 metre widths to keep joins to a minimum in larger rooms.

Within the range you'll also find curated colour collections. Durham Twist Naturals takes its palette straight from the natural world, all calming neutrals drawn from woods, wools and crops, while Durham Twist Elements is inspired by glaciers, oceans, stones and metals. If you want something bolder, Durham Twist Colours brings sixteen confident modern tones to a traditional twist pile.

Deco stripes and Axminster

Hugh Mackay's Deco Collection is a 100% wool loop pile range of striped designs, and it's available in a 1 metre width, which makes it ideal for stair runners and hallways. The company also continues to weave traditional Axminster carpets in its Cathedral Collection, for anyone after a classic patterned carpet made the proper way.
