Why We Recommend Quick-Step Laminate Flooring

We fit a lot of different flooring brands, but when it comes to laminate, Quick-Step is one we come back to again and again. Customers ask us about it a lot, so we thought we'd explain why we rate it.

The choice

The range is a big part of it. Quick-Step's laminate collection covers a huge spread of designs. Wood effects in everything from light oaks to darker boards and herringbone, plus stone and tile effects if that suits the room better. Most brands give you a decent spread of options, but with Quick-Step we can nearly always find something that works, whatever the style of the house.

The realism is impressive too. With some of the wood effect boards you have to get quite close to tell them apart from the real thing, and they don't have that hollow, plasticky feel you sometimes get when you walk on a cheaper laminate.

How it holds up

The main reason we like it though is that it lasts. Quick-Step laminates have a protective top layer they call Scratch Guard, which does a good job against the everyday scuffs and scratches you get from pets, furniture and general foot traffic. We see plenty of older floors in our line of work, and the difference between a good quality laminate and a cheap one after five years is obvious.

The warranties back that up. Most Quick-Step laminate ranges come with a 20 or 25 year domestic warranty, which tells you how much confidence they have in their own product.

Kitchens and bathrooms

A few years ago we would have steered people away from laminate in a kitchen. Water and laminate didn't mix, simple as that. Quick-Step's water resistant ranges have changed things. Spills sit on the surface instead of soaking into the joints, so laminate in the kitchen or bathroom is now a realistic option, as long as it's fitted and sealed properly.

The Muse range in particular has been really popular with our kitchen customers. It's a laminate that looks like stone tiles, and the effect is genuinely convincing, but because it's laminate it's warmer and softer underfoot than real stone ever is. It comes in a wide range of colours too, so it's easy to find something that works with your units and worktops.

That said, fitting matters. The water resistance and the warranty both depend on the floor being installed correctly, with the right underlay and sealed edges in wet areas. It's one of the reasons we'd always recommend having it fitted by someone who knows the product.
